Meet Joe & Sara.
Merging their professional backgrounds in documentary production, nonprofit program design, ecological restoration, and outdoor education, Plant a Wish founders Sara Tekula and Joseph Imhoff have a unique combined skill set which makes the Plant a Wish project a natural progression of their combined interests, talents, and passions.
Sara has Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern California and over 15 years’ experience in the film and television industry, including producer credits on “Survivor” for CBS and the “Behind the Music” documentary series for Vh1. Working in the world of documentary video since 1999, she is also a talented videographer, writer, and editor. She has interviewed countless experts, visionaries, and musicians, and also works as a freelance journalist from time to time. A public relations and media consultant on Maui since 2004, Sara teaches marketing at the University of Hawaii Maui College campus. She is currently the Director of Programs at The Merwin Conservancy, where she has worked full time since 2015. She has also held positions as a Education Director of a nonprofit community media organization, and an outreach specialist for an earth-science related nonprofit. Click here to email Sara.
Joe is the Program Manager for Skyline Conservation, serves as outreach coordinator and trainer for one of Hawaii’s most successful and socially responsible outdoor activity companies, and has planted over 3,000 indigenous trees on Maui, leading hundreds of volunteers from the community on native tree planting excursions. An experienced land steward, Joe also has over 15 years experience as an outdoor educator. He is a skilled videographer and editor, with a wide variety of production credits on his resume.
