Plant a Wish is proud to collaborate with Tatiana Howard and her 8th Annual Butterfly Effect Maui gathering on Saturday, April 26th, which is a downwind paddle that begins at Baldwin Beach Park in Paia, Maui and ends with a celebratory festival at Kanaha Beach Park in Kahului..
The Butterfly Effect is a worldwide water woman movement that brings women together in a non-competitive gathering celebrating community and love of the ocean, while instilling confidence in women of all ages and skill sets.
In addition to paddling from Baldwin Beach to Kanaha, participants in the 8th Annual Butterfly Effect Maui event are encouraged to participate in several “give back” opportunities, including Paddle & Plant, a day of native ecosystem restoration in Kula, Maui on Sunday, April 27th with Plant a Wish! Only registered paddlers are invited to participate, and proceeds from the event will go towards the trees! (After all, butterflies need trees!)
At Paddle & Plant, the paddlers – “Butterflies” as they are called – will be spending the afternoon planting hundreds of trees on agricultural land (at Protea Gardens of Maui) that is now being restored to native ecosystem. This “Farm to Forest” project is much like others we encountered on our 50-state tour, where farmers and land owners see the value in taking a portion of their land out of “ag production” and allowing it to become a functioning native habitat once again.
We’re stoked to have Tatiana and her team as partners, and we hope you’ll look for our Plant a Wish “Adopt a Tree” booth at the “celebratory” finish line festival at Kanaha Beach Park, which will include paddling tips from the pros, artists of all genres, yoga/fitness, instructors, live music, dancing, local food, aerial silk dancing, photo booth fun, beach clean up, lots of product prizes and special surprises.
